Silly: the Popular East German Band is Back

In the former East Germany, Silly were known for their poetic and socially critical lyrics. Founded in 1978 in East Berlin, the soft rock group was one of the country’s most popular bands along with the Puhdys, Karat and City. And after the Berlin wall fell, Silly were among the few East German groups who survived musically. But tragedy struck in 1996 when lead vocalist Tamara Danz died of cancer, putting an end to the band’s success. Ten years later, singer and actress Anna Loos became the new frontwoman, and now Silly are back with their first studio album in 14 years. We got to know Silly in the studio and at their record release concert.

Adolar: Critics’ Favorite Release Debut Album

"Highly melodic indie pop with anthem-like qualities“, „classy songs“ and „an inventive mix of genres“ – that’s how German critics describe the music of Adolar. The four twenty somethings from the eastern German city of Magdeburg have been playing together since they were teenagers. In 2008, Adolar named themselves after an animated figure on Hungarian television. After a few minor releases, the band is now presenting its debut album. Their current tour takes Adolar through Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and Switzerland, not to mention France and Britain. popXport was on location for the band’s opening concert in Magdeburg.
